What is a VOLUNTOURIST?

Could be you! If you as vacation minded individual spend a small portion of your vacation time on volunteer work.
Are you curious how to put Voluntourism into practice?
Follow me Jan van der Meer and Rogier van Beeck Calkoen on our upcoming  Voluntourism trip in Africa January-April 2011. We both share a passion to produce videoclips and during our trip we love to help others in need for promo-videoclips on their website and YouTube.

VOLUNTOURISM is a rapidly growing trend because combining a vacation or trip abroad with volunteering on local projects is one way you can immerse yourself in local cultures and it will be your life-changing experience.
No matter whether you’re in your 20s, a baby boomer (the group expressing the strongest interest), or parents who want to introduce their children to other cultures, YOU can do it and help with anything you learned yourself in your life.

Are you curious how WE put Voluntourism into practice? Follow me Jan van der Meer and Rogier van Beeck Calkoen on our Voluntourism trip in Africa Kenya and Uganda January-April 2011. Jade Yorks will keep up this blog with actual information while we are on route.

VOLUNTEER WORK IS
NEXT STEP FOR VOLUNTOURIST

When traveling abroad there are several possibilities to spend your time. You could discover the beauty of nature, shop around, visit the country highlights or even relax at a pool all day. Another possibility to visit a foreign country is to spread your own knowledge and skills of your own expertise by volunteering. Being either a volunteer or a tourist doesn’t really has to be something different. Voluntourism is a way to be a tourist and volunteer at the same time. Nevertheless there are different degrees in Voluntourism. Between being a volunteer and a tourist there are a large number of possibilities. A person traveling to another country just for the purpose of working without earning any penny is called a volunteer. Don’t you dare call him a tourist. A volunteer, for example a retired doctor, could spent all the days of his trip on helping locals in need of medical issues. A teacher could also teach here in schools. If the retired doctor decides to take a break from his volunteer work to relax a an hotel for a few day, he becomes a voluntourist. But his widom is the key to success for another generation!

These are just two examples of how volunteering and an holiday can merge. Are you curious how to put Voluntourism into practice? Follow Jan van der Meer and Rogier van Beeck Calkoen on their Voluntourism trip in Africa starting January 2011.
